54 new homes for rent for Glasgow Housing Association at a brownfield site bounded by Cathay Street, Raasay Street and Scaraway Street in Milton. Made up of 16 cottage flats (8 of which are wheelchair accessible) and 38 terraced 2 and 3 bedroom family homes. DO-Architecture’s role included Architect, Landscape Designer for Glasgow Housing Association and Lead Consultant following novation for the Main Contractor.
DO were initially involved in a wider masterplanning exercise for Milton wherein this site was one of 4 identified. Our masterplan investigated the phased regeneration of derelict sites scheduled for demolition and brownfield sites to provide more than 200 new homes of mixed tenure. The site described here was one of these 4 sites, selected as most appropriate to provide social housing for rent by the GHA. The successful delivery thus far of the first phase has led to a second phase being commissioned by GHA and is currently on site utilising the same design team in order to provide clarity and cohesiveness in the overall masterplan delivery.
The development is designed to Silver Standard Active with the use of both a ‘Fabric First’ process and supplemented with in-line photovoltaics designed with the aid of our now complete, Section 6 Certification. The homes are also designed to Secured by Design and Housing for Varying Needs standards.
